Flying our 3D penned kite in Mountain View’s Kite Lot

This January has been very windy in the San Francisco Bay Area. Kite playing can be a fun and safe activity in the pandemics: it’s easy to keep social distance (well, to fly a kite!) in a very open space. Let’s make a 3D penned kite flying with real kites in the sky 🪁

Kite making with a 3D pen

Creating a basic diamond kite is as easy as four steps, taking less than 30 minutes with 6–7 3Doodler Start strands:

  1. Build the kite frame: doodle a diamond shape of the kite body
  2. Fill in the colors
  3. Decorate with tails
  4. Add some flying and bridle lines

Tips: 3Doodler’s DoodlePad is especially handy for creating shapes and lines. If you plan to take your 3D penned kite outdoors like we did, test your kite with some force to make sure the structure is study enough for strong wind.

We love Berkeley Marina the most, where the annual Berkeley Kite Festival used to be held before the pandemics. In Mountain View, the Shoreline Park next to the Google headquarters is also a great option.
